This MicroPhone II script will set the internal clock on the Macintosh to the correct time. It will do so by calling the NBS time standard in Boulder, Colorado, obtaining the current Universal Co-ordinated Time (UTC), and then using this time to set the Macintosh clock.
After loading (or double clicking) the script, simply click the “Set Time” button. A dialog box will then appear allowing you to select the correct time zone. All US times zones are shown, both standard and daylight savings time. Select the time zone you are in (making sure to choose standard or daylight saving as appropriate), then click “OK”. You may also double click the correct time zone.
If the time zone you are in is not shown, select the “Other…” zone, and then enter the difference between your local time and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT is the current time in London, England).
Once the time zone has been selected, the script will dial the time standard, obtain the current UTC, adjust it for local time, and set the internal Macintosh clock. The charge for the call will vary depending on your location, but since it only lasts a few seconds, should be less than 25 cents. Once the time has been obtained, the phone will be hung up automatically. The accuracy of the time setting will vary from one Macintosh model to another due to speed differences, but should be well within 1/60th of a second.
